Using tunnels, caves and rail systems to dig into the human condition, Nacha’s sculptural paintings derive from imagery of her own time in the mining industry. In her conversation with Barbara, Nacha describes her grapples with two distinct modes of painting: “painting as a window onto another world” and “painting as object.”

Toying with our tendency to anthropomorphize our surroundings, Nacha strives nevertheless not to distort her sources. She acknowledges that viewers will bring their own interpretations, and is interested in their perspectives on her work.
