The recent exhibit by Max Dean – whom host Michael Hansen calls “the godfather of robotic art” – features an interactive sculpture, a series of photographs, and an archive of personal objects. On the things that make up his archive, Dean notes how “…All of these objects [are] waiting for us, waiting for us to interact with them and invest meaning” (3:40). Amassing many such objects together for display, Dean follows in an avante-garde tradition that uses collection as expression.

Using silicone rubber, Dakovic strives to lend her work the elasticity of skin. Though now diverging from the three dimensional work of her sculptural tradition, the artist is continuing to explore the notion of threshholds, and tells Barbara that “the skin being the threshold between how we react to something coming from the outside and vice versa, how things affect us, how we project ourselves.”
