In Interface , Nowacki blends different media to engage our evolving interactions with technology. Citing Canadian media theorist Marshall McLuhan as an influence on his interactive sculptures, the artist tells Mike that he was spurred to the concept by a desire to merge his work as a painter and computer animator. The resulting hybrids include paintings that feature QR codes, among other crafted, interactive pieces .

Using tunnels, caves and rail systems to dig into the human condition, Nacha’s sculptural paintings derive from imagery of her own time in the mining industry. In her conversation with Barbara, Nacha describes her grapples with two distinct modes of painting: “painting as a window onto another world” and “painting as object.”
